Who doesn’t love looking their best? The world just seems that little bit brighter when we have the confidence that comes from leaving our homes looking fantastic. Alas, that’s not always the case. While there are some times when everything comes together perfectly, those moments can sometimes feel few and far between. Fortunately, if there’s one thing that’s nearly always easy to fix without all that much effort, it’s your style. In this blog, I'll look at a few underrated ways to push your style in the right direction.
1. Reevaluate your go-to pieces
We all have those favourite items of clothing. We look great in them; they’re comfortable; they’ve been with us through thick and thin. However, as with all things in life, it is possible to become a little too attached to our favourite pieces. It’s all good and well when they’re brand new, but if you’ve been wearing them regularly for a year or more, then they may not be in prime condition anymore. From time to time, take a look at the items in your wardrobe, and check that they’re still as good as they once were. If they’re beginning to fray or lose their colour, then it might be time to demote them to ‘indoor wear only.’
However, it’s also worth remembering that you can often bring old items back to life. Just because a clothing item might have a rip in it, that doesn’t mean that it has to be thrown away. If you learn the basics of clothing DIY fixes, you can extend the lifespan of your clothes. Failing that, you can always take them to a professional seamstress to get them restored.
2. Focus on the bottom half
All too often, people focus on what they’re wearing on the top half of their body. And you can see why: that’s nearest to people’s line of sight. However, it's recommended to dress from the bottom up. If you’re wearing a fantastic pair of women's jeans and stylish sneakers, then you’ll be well on your way to looking great.
3. Play with accessories
In my opinion, not enough people make the most of accessories. They’re affordable, they’re fun, they can add so much to an outfit. What’s not to love? If you think that your look could do with a little more colour and interest, take a look at adding some accessories to your life. This could be in the shape of jewellery, sunglasses, hats, gloves and scarf sets, etc.
4. Evolve your personal style
Don’t let your personal style stay static for too long! It’s important to keep nudging things in the right direction. Even subtle changes and improvements can help to keep things fresh and exciting especially as you mature.
5. Getting the right fit
An item might look beautiful when it’s on the hanger, but there’s no guarantee that it’ll look just as beautiful on you. Why? Because while the quality of the clothing is, of course, important, it’s not the only thing that contributes to making you look awesome. The fit of the clothing is arguably just as important. It’s well worth figuring out your body shape and then buying clothes that are designed with that body shape in mind. If you have nice clothes but you’re not entirely happy with how they fit your body, then remember that you can always begin working out. Even a slight change in your body shape can change how you look in your clothing.
6. Invest in classic pieces
You’ll have your personal sense of style, but that doesn’t mean that every outfit you wear needs to be infused with you all over. There’s also space to submit yourself to classic outfits. So take a look at getting those classy, timeless pieces into your wardrobe. If you have all the essentials in your wardrobe, then you’ll always have the right thing to wear to an event or night out. You can make an impact with your personal sense of style, but very often you can blow people away by subverting expectations and doing something completely different from what you usually do.
By incorporating the tips above into your style, you’ll be able to look great, every single day.
