Our engagement trip to Intercontinental Mauritius Resort

If you didn't know by now I love to travel and I was lucky enough to win a trip to Mauritius with fashion brand Blue Vanilla which of course was an amazing surprise! But little did I know my partner Blake was planning an even bigger surprise for when I arrived at our beautiful all inclusive hotel - Intercontinental Mauritius Resort situated within the boundaries of Balaclava Bay and close to the capital, Port Louis.

The rooms at Intercontinental Mauritius Resort

We arrived at the resort on the Friday, feeling very jet lagged after a 16 hour flight with Emirates and a change in Dubai. But as soon as we saw the views, beach and the pool, the jet lagged disappeared and I couldn't wait to start our dream holiday.

Intercontinental Mauritius Resort have five room options: deluxe, prestige, family, honeymoon and suites with a private hot tub. We had the deluxe ocean facing room that included wifi, a wide balcony, massive bed and bathroom with a relaxing bath and shower.

We were greeted with a bottle of champagne and chocolates and the staff had decorated the bed with petals and swan shaped towels. Plus throughout our stay they did turn down of the room everyday and the cleaners were friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.

Our engagement in Mauritius

On the Friday evening we were getting ready for dinner and Blake said lets go and take some pictures on the little private island in the sea. Once we walked over the table, the wonderful concierge had decorated the table with candles which I thought was for someone else! But in the end I realised it was all set up for us and Blake's proposal which was so romantic. Definitely an amazing start to our Mauritius holiday.

Dining at Intercontinental Mauritius Resort
At
Intercontinental Mauritius Resort there are five restaurants: Noble House (Asian-fusion restaurant), Segala (Mediterranean Cuisine) Senso (International Buffet Restaurant), Veda (Contemporary Indian Restaurant). Plus the sugar cane beach bar which is right by the pool and beach for lunch and cocktails brought to your sunbed.

We got to try all the restaurants and for breakfast we went to the buffet which catered for all different nationalities I ended up eating noodles for breakfast! We couldn't fault the food at all, it was fresh and the staff were so accommodating to Blakes gluten free allergies, we even had a party on the beach and the chef personally came and told Blake what he could eat. Plus they made him gluten free pancakes! Our favourite restaurants included the noble house and veda because we love asian and indian food.

The facilities & entertainment at Intercontinental Mauritius Resort

At Intercontinental Mauritius Resort there was plenty to do including free equipment hire including kayaks, pedal boats, water skiing which Blake was a pro at. They also have a dive centre and provide deep-sea fishing expeditions, sailing trips and glass-bottom boat rides. There is a fitness centre and spa where we had a couples back massage. There was also two infinity pools, kids pool and a tennis court. We spent most of our time by the pool with a cocktail in hand, we were surprised at how quiet it was for early October, we never had to fight over sunbeds, sometimes we had half the beach to ourselves. Pure luxury!

Boat trip to ÃŽle aux Cerfs

My future in laws surprised us with a boat trip to a
private island off the east coast of Mauritius called ÃŽle aux Cerfs. We travelled an hour by car to get to our own private boat we felt like celebrities. The speed boat first took us across the crystal clear waters to ÃŽle aux Cerfs where we had time to explore and relax. Then we got back on the boat to the GRSE waterfalls where we saw wild monkeys and climbed to the top where we could swim. This was at first a terrifying experience for me as I am not a strong swimmer but I braved it because I can now say I got to swim in beautiful waterfalls. After this we travelled to another island where we had a seafood lunch on the beach. Then on the way back Blake got the chance to snorkel.

Overall we couldn't fault the hospitality at Intercontinental Mauritius Resort, it was an unforgettable holiday and we're hoping to go back for our honeymoon next year.

Have you ever travelled to Mauritius?
