Date Night at The Peacock, Oxhill

Living in the countryside I am spoilt for choice when it comes to food there are so many fantastic restaurants and country pubs so I was very excited to be trying somewhere new for date night. Situated about thirty minutes from my hometown of Stratford Upon Avon, is The Peacock a lovely pub in the village of Oxhill. Upon entering the warwickshire village I could already tell that that we were going to have a lovely evening, the houses are stunning and it had a real countryside vibe.

On arrival at the Peacock, Oxhill you can immediately see the stunning original brickwork and pretty floral hanging baskets outside, once inside we had a warm welcome from the staff and also a cute Labrador called Henry! Once seated at our table, I couldn't stop admiring the rustic feel of the pub with peacock wallpaper (of course!) and the open fireplace.

Our lovely waitress gave us the dinner menu along with the specials and also told us about the gluten free options because my boyfriend is coeliac. This is a great perk for the Peacock, Oxhill as not many pubs offer this on their menus and they also offer our favourite cider on draft - Rattler. Unfortunately on this occasion it was sold out, but this does mean that we have to go back for another visit!

For our date night we decided to share a starter and a pudding as I always get too full having three courses. For starter there were lots of options but we love fish so we picked the grilled fillet of Scottish mackerel, confit leeks, beetroot and pickled carrots which was a surprising delicious combination. The mackerel was very fresh and just the right amount.

The next course was our main meal, I chose fish again and went for the squid ink tagliatelle with summer vegetables, crab, prawns, squid and finished with basil oil. The squid ink in the pasta gives it a black colour and a richer flavour, I'm so glad I got to finally try it. Even though it looks like a small portion, pasta is always so filling and the tomato flavour worked really well.

The boyfriend went for his favourite dish: rib eye steak, roasted vine cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, triple cooked chips with peppercorn sauce. He even said it was one of the best steaks he had ever had!

For dessert, we couldn't resist the panna cotta served with a salted caramel sauce. It was so creamy and looked really impressive. There was also raspberry cheesecake on the menu which I will definitely be trying next time.

All three courses tasted amazing and I was really impressed at how quick the service was, we're pleased we have found a new local pub and we will definitely be back.

Where is your favourite place to eat?

*In exchange for an honest review we were given two courses each free.
