The use of coconut oil in our kitchens and bathrooms is on the rise and it's because it’s such a versatile ingredient; you can rub it into your skin and hair for a natural daily moisturiseror just use it when cooking your next meal. There are so many studies proving coconut oil to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet, some even class it as a superfood.
I was recently introduced to a new brand of coconut oil Bula Batiki on twitter and after hearing the amazing story that Callum and Ellis are doing for the Fijian community I couldn't wait to try the coconut oil in my kitchen.

Bula Batiki is a non-profit coconut oil company that started out to provide a sustainable income to the remote island of Batiki in Fiji. The product itself is made from Batiki Island’s own coconuts, contains no chemicals and no artificial ingredients and is hand-made by the villagers of Batiki Island. In Batiki there are over 300 villagers, all of which are now able to produce the coconut oil and the best thing is 100% of the profits are reinvested back into the community. Their aim is to increase sales so that they can offer the same opportunities and income to the islands surrounding Batiki.
Benefits of Coconut Oil
- It’s a great source of calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.
- Can be used as a treatment for frizzy hair
- It's not processed by the body in the same way as other fats, in fact it is the only fat that the body can burn / use instantly, giving you the same energy boost as carbs.
- Could lower your cholesterol (some bodies react differently to different foods)
- Improves your digestion
- Supports a healthy immune system
Cooking with Coconut Oil
If you love cooking then Coconut oil can potentially be your new best friend. It has a higher smoke point and longer shelf life than some other fats and it can be used in many different cooking methods such as baking, frying, greasing baking pans. Plus it's a great replacement for butter or vegetable oil, whats not to like?! In my home the boyfriend (he's the cook) uses coconut oil a lot when he's cooking stir fry, omelettes, curries and potatoes. The recipes are endless.

I've only ever used coconut oil in cooking, but I've heard so many good things to use it for. I really like the packaging and idea of this brand.
