After successfully distilling gin in their Stratford-upon-Avon distillery for five years, Shakespeare Distillery have recently launched their brand new venture - Jester Rum! A British white rum distilled from scratch right here in Shakespeare’s County and I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to try it out!
How has the Jester Rum been created?
They are the first distillery in Warwickshire to make their white rum completely from scratch at the Shakespeare Distillery. Many other rum brands choose to import their base spirit from places like the Caribbean, before simply spicing it themselves because distilling rum isn’t easy work. It requires patience, experience and dedication. Shakespeare Distillery have skilfully and slowly fermented quality British molasses to craft a flavoursome base to their rum. It’s then distilled twice to ensure the finest hearts of the spirit are captured, creating a premium handcrafted British spirit.
The name Jester is inspired by a sculpture of a jester; a tribute to Shakespeare’s work that stands at the head of Henley Street, the very street on which Shakespeare was born and lived.
Tasting notes of the Jester Rum
Tropical fruits combined with a hint of citrus lead the flavour profile in our signature white rum. Buttery smooth molasses make for a rich, long-lasting, yet mildly sweet finish.
How to serve the Jester Rum? Neat or in cocktails!
The Jester Rum is a great sipping rum for enjoying neat. Alternatively, it’s fantastic in your favourite rum cocktail or topped with premium cola and a squeeze of lime. Jester’s boldness makes it a very versatile spirit. Being a cocktail girl at heart I decided to create two of my favourites: Peach Mojito and Pina Colada.
