How to style your Airbnb

Renting out your home on Airbnb is a great way to earn an extra income., especially when you yourself are travelling - in fact, it could actually even pay for your holidays - but it does mean thinking a little differently about the style and decor of your home.

If you’re thinking about showing your home on Airbnb, here are a few things that will help you strike the right note: Think about the setting and your audience

If you want to set the right tone with your home’s decor and attract people to the place, you first need to think about the setting of your home because that will tell you what kind of crowd you are likely to attract, and this what kind of decor they would be most impressed by. For example, if you live in a bustling city centre apartment, chances are you’ll want to appeal to a young, hip market and therefore, you’ll want to add a few modern touches like chrome, glass and minimalist furniture, whereas if you live in a quaint country cottage, the average age of your visitors is likely to be older and a more comfy traditional look with Persian rugs and antique lamps may be more appealing.

Focus on feature items

Of course, if it’s your home for most of the year, you need the decor to appeal to you most of all, which is why focusing on feature items could be a good way to set the right tone and attract the right people. For instance, if you want to make your home more appealing to a younger crowd you could invest in a portable bar area or some fancy speakers or if you want to appeal to families you could buy some beanbags, a children’s bookshelf and a few toys that can be easily packed away when not in use.

Investing in attractive pieces of art to hang on the walls and small decorative items like glass bottles and throw pillows that can be used to make the home feel more luxurious is also a good idea, and again you can put them into storage if they aren’t exactly your style year-round.

Invest in tech

Anything that can make life in your home easier for you and your guests, such as Alexa’s that will;l allow them to play music from any room, a smart noise monitoring that will help you to manage your guests and keep your neighbours from complaining to decent speakers and a home cinema system for cosy nights in, has to be worth investing in. After all, you can use most of it yourself in daily life.

If in doubt, keep it neutral

If you aren’t really sure what to do for the best, neutral colours and a more minimal style is probably your best bet as it will be more acceptable to more people. Get rid of your clutter, keep the palace clean and don’t do anything too outrageous and you should be fine.
